Advancing Networked Observation of Marine Ecosystems and the Marine Station Partnership Initiative in China
The coastal zone is a vital component of global sustainable development and a key area of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. However, coastal ecosystems are under increasing stresses from both human activities and climate change. There is an urgent need to establish a long-term and systematic observation and research platform for the coastal ecosystems.
Seascape Symposium II: Reconnecting the Seascape
On 4th and 5th June 2025, ZSL will hold a second Seascape Symposium, “Reconnecting the Seascape”, in collaboration with the University of Portsmouth and the University of Edinburgh.

Marine Science, Ocean Arts: Interdisciplinary, Intertidal, Interdependent. An integrative workshop. Address the ocean emergency together. Participants will acquire rigorous skills in scientific and arts inquiry and expression, will pursue individual and collaborative interdisciplinary projects, and will emerge with a showcase work. Bring a project or idea to develop, or be inspired to start a new one.

Held in Shizuoka, Japan, this gathering of global marine experts from November 27-30, 2024, has laid an important foundation for further development of the World Association of Marine Stations.

We’re thrilled to share insights from the exciting 2nd World Congress of Marine Stations, held in Shizuoka, Japan from 27-29 November 2024! This year, 79 attendees from 19 countries came together for an engaging four-day programme packed with five conference sessions, a dynamic round-table, and a lively poster session, followed by visits to marine stations in Japan.
WAMS secures UN Decade Endorsement as World Congress registration deadline approaches
The World Association of Marine Stations (WAMS) is pleased to announce a significant milestone in its journey towards advancing marine science globally. The World Congress of Marine Stations (WCMS) 2024 has received official endorsement from the UN’s Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (IOC/UNESCO) as an activity of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.
