WAMS secures UN Decade Endorsement as World Congress registration deadline approaches

The World Association of Marine Stations (WAMS) is pleased to announce a significant milestone in its journey towards advancing marine science globally. The World Congress of Marine Stations (WCMS) 2024 has received official endorsement from the UN’s Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (IOC/UNESCO) as an activity of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.

This prestigious endorsement strengthens WAMS’ position as a key partner in delivering against the objectives of the UN Decade, building upon the long-standing support from the IOC in promoting sustainable ocean science and research.

 

World Congress Updates

With the WCMS 2024 now just one month away, preparations are in full swing for this landmark gathering of the global marine stations community in Japan. The Congress website has been recently updated with comprehensive programme details, including confirmed speakers for each session, and enhanced venue information with detailed access instructions.

Important Reminder: The Congress registration deadline is 30 October 2024. Participants are encouraged to register promptly to secure their place at this historic first in-person meeting of the global marine stations community.

While the official abstract submission deadline has passed, limited opportunities remain for late submissions, subject to programme availability. Interested researchers should contact wcms2024japan@gmail.com for consideration.

 

Atlas Enhancement

In parallel with the Congress preparations, WAMS has launched an enhanced version of its Atlas platform. The updated system now features:

  • Regional filtering capabilities for marine stations
  • A new layer highlighting regional networks
  • Improved user interface for better navigation
