Highlights from the 2nd World Congress of Marine Stations

WAMS 2nd Congress
We’re thrilled to share insights from the exciting 2nd World Congress of Marine Stations, held in Shizuoka, Japan from 27-29 November 2024!
This year, 79 attendees from 19 countries came together for an engaging four-day programme packed with five conference sessions, a dynamic round-table, and a lively poster session, followed by visits to marine stations in Japan.

Discussions during the Congress centered on how marine stations worldwide can collaborate to tackle the urgent environmental challenges posed by climate change. Highlights included the essential role marine stations play in cutting-edge research and education and their critical need for global support. Our congress wrapped up with the first-ever in-person steering committee meeting.

Some proposals to host the next World Congress of Marine Stations in 2026 have been made already – stay tuned for further announcements, as well as more detailed outcomes of WCMS2024, including congress statement and congress report.

Here’s to embracing future challenges and opportunities! We’re excited for what’s ahead.
